We were seeking for a big challenge, so when I saw that The Happy Institute was one of the most difficult rooms of The Panic Room, I immediately booked it!
In this room we are welcomed in the Happy Institute, an Institute that develops and tests drugs with the aim of making people HAPPY (with a big smile =D). As we enter the institute, we get to test the very recent batch of the drug, then we get told that it seems like there’s an antidote somewhere and that if we were to find it somewhere to make sure to bring it to them as it would be terrible if such an aweful thing was made public!!
This room was indeed very challenging. It’s not because it was very difficult to solve, but rather that it is a very minimalistic escpe room. There aren’t too many things to do, and sometimes you understand where is located the puzzles, but have very hard time figuring out what to do! This results in a bit of frustration at times. But the whole experience is just propelled to a different level because of the actors.
The puzzles are not so hard, but you can imagine how much harder it becomes to solve them when the hosts of the institute roam around and observe you, sometimes just histerically starting to laugh (one of the side effects of the drug). It really keeps you on edge the whole game. For us who love the thrill, it was a great experience.
We chose to give the following grades:
- Story: 4.5/5
We really end up feeling like we are guinea pigs here to test the drug. On top of it, we get to learn more about this drug during the game.
- Ambiance: 5/5
Immersion is absolutely perfect, and it’s even better with the actors.
- Puzzles: 5/5
Very fun puzzles! Not many, but it would too hard if there were more!
- Mechanisms: 2.5/5
Not much in our opinion.
- Averall feeling: 2.5/3
The experience was amazing, but as I mentionned a bit before, at times this room can become really frustrating. But not to the point that it made us hate the room!
- Hosting: 2/2
William and Ewan were amazing! They really made us feel scared and made us really want to escape!!
We escaped in 52:27 min.
We definitely recommend this room! BUT, be aware that it’s somewhat of a scary experience. I even felt that it was scarier than the Dollhouse. Even Maxime who doesn’t even feel scared during horror movies (which I would call terrifying) had goose bumps and felt uncomfortable (the type of uncomfortable you seek in horror/creepy places).
